FRANK ALLEN , bass player and "front man" with THE SEARCHERS for over 40 years, has written a book on his lifetime of travel, which is now available - see below.
It is called "TRAVELLING MAN" with the sub-title "ON THE ROAD WITH THE SEARCHERS" - not an autobiography as such, but more an amusing and sometimes irreverent look at a lifetime of travel from one of the most popular performers still on the 60s music scene:
- Frank's school and family trips in the 50s
- Joining local bands as a teenager and journeying to gigs
- Going as a member of Cliff Bennett & the Rebel Rousers to Hamburg
- Meeting the Beatles, the Everly Brothers, Bo Diddley and others
- Joining the Searchers, who had become good friends in Hamburg
- First trips to the USA, working with the Supremes, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, the Ronettes, the Temptations etc.
- The 1966 Philippines/Australia tour with the Rolling Stones, during which the drummer Chris Curtis left the group
- Forces shows - Israel in the 60s, Bosnia in the 90s
- The break up with Mike Pender and the ensuing court case
- The Solid Silver Sixties Tours, the resurgence of the 80s and 90s and much more
